When it comes to cleaning, our patio or deck furniture gives us a pretty big challenge. Patio furniture is more exposed to the sun, rain, dirt, and other outdoor elements compared to indoor furniture, making them more prone to dust, dirt, rust, and mildew.
Of course, removing rust and mildew stains would be quite hard. But did you know that you can actually try removing these stains using some of the products inside your home? Here are some easy ways on how to get rid of unwanted stains in patio furniture:
I. Steps to remove rust stains:
1. To remove rust stains from patio furniture the first step is for you to wipe the surface dirt with a moist cloth.
2. Then, apply some white vinegar to a piece of cloth. Rub this on the rust stain and let it set for a few minutes. Afterwhich, rinse thoroughly with water and a clean rag or cloth. You might ask why use vinegar? Vinegar actually is a form of acid and this will help dissolve rust stains.
3. Using soap and water, wash the area with the rust stain again. If there is any residue left, repeat the procedure.
II. Steps to remove mildew stains:
1. For mildew or mold stains, the first thing you need to do is mix one part bleach with nine parts water in an empty spray bottle. Label the spray bottle as bleach mixture using a marker.
2. Next, spray the area with the mildew stain until it becomes damp. Leave it on for several minutes until the bleach solution dries. Repeat the procedure as many times as necessary until the mildew or mold stain starts to disappear. Take note that this procedure might fade the area. So to even it out, spray the entire patio furniture surface.
3. If there is any residue left, rinse the dried furniture with soap and water. Let this dry under the sun.
III. Stains on patio cushion (fabrics):
1. For patio cushions usually made of fabric, the first step to remove stains is to pour a small amount of lemon juice on the stain and let it dry for several minutes.
2. Next, fill a bucket with water and mix some mild detergent.
3. Once the mixture is ready, dip a sponge into it and then gently rub the patio cushion to remove the stain on it. Apply more pressure if the stain is hard to remove. As soon as it is clean, let the patio cushion dry under the sun.
No matter what kind of stain you have on your patio furniture, there is always a solution. Don’t throw it out unless you’ve tried these tricks without success.
